The Pianomation® Player unit is an economical alternative for those desiring to install an after market player on their piano. It is manufactured by the QRS corporation, a company associated with player pianos for the last century.

The unit features a small control box, which reads Pianomation® CDs, and a compact solenoid rail mounted under the piano. Rechel Piano Company both installs and services Pianomation®. Please call or email for a quote or answers for any questions not listed below.

CAN A PIANOMATION® UNIT BE INSTALLED IN MY PIANO?
In virtually every case, yes. The Pianomation® unit will fit in most models of grands, some uprights and even some console pianos. The main consideration that impacts the quality of the playback, is the quality of the piano itself prior to installation.

WILL MY PIANO NEED TO BE MOVED?
Because of the complexity of the installation, it is necessary to have the piano in our shop to assure a quality installation. This provides the tools and materials to perform the best possible installation. Upon request, we can provide references for skilled piano movers.

DOES THE PIANOMATION® AFFECT HOW THE PIANO PLAYS BY HAND?
Because the solenoids are not connected to the keys, but merely push up on the back of them, there is no difference in the touch or sound of the piano keys before or after the installation. Some modification is made to the sostenuto (center) pedal.

HOW DOES THE PIANOMATION® PLAY THE KEYS?
The control box reads the information required for play back from the CD. The control box transmits this information to the piano’s CPU, which in turn signals the key’s solenoid to move. The solenoid, located at the rear of the key, pushes up on the key, creating the same action as when you push down on the front of the key, resulting in the playing of the piano. The piano’s computer can operate the key solenoid with 16 different degrees of intensity.

WHAT ARE THE BASIC DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PIANOMATION® AND PIANODISC®?
The strengths of the Pianomation® unit are its economics and the compact nature of the control box and solenoid rail. For those desiring a less obtrusive adaptation to their piano, the Pianomation® unit is the choice. The PianoDisc® unit provides more features, more realistic playback, and a larger selection of music.
